Independent stories for the screen have been around for years. If you're the Sundance Institute and Film Festival, you've been around for 30+ years. So it’s not a new concept, but it’s hard for so many inspiring filmmakers to penetrate through the mountain of submissions and standout from the rest of the applications that get submitted to Sundance each year.

Cineseptiembre is Mazatlan’s Sundance.

In it’s eighth year, Cineseptiembre International Festival of Independent Cinema will take place September 17 through September 23, 2015 at the Angela Peralta Theater in the Historic Center.

This annual international film festival has an emphasis on Spanish-language shorts and features, with over 80 films selected under the Official Selection, for competition each year. Some of the subject matters get active support from National Institute of Anthropology and History as well as the Archaeological Museum of Mazatlan.

Here’s a unique space for independent storytellers to showcase their films and new audiovisual forms to spark a dialogue with the audience who are looking to explore quality films that are not in the mainstream.

To quote Robert Redford, President and Founder of Sundance Film Festivals. “Storytellers broaden our minds: engage, provoke, inspire, and ultimately, connect us."

The event is carried out by CINESEPTIEMBRE, A.C. with the support of CULTURA Mazatlan, and in coordination with the Cinematography Training Center (Centro de Capacitacion Cinematografica). If you are an inspiring indie filmmaker looking for an outlet to feature your work, look no further than Mazatlan’s Cineseptiembre as the venue to showcase your work.

Admission is FREE but ticketed. You can get your ticket(s) at the Angela Peralta Theater Box Office. Make sure to get your passes fast as the events sell out.
