Mazatlan is one of Mexico’s most romantic cities. We love Mazatlan for its excitement, live music, drool-worthy food, and rich culture, all of which make it Mexico’s City of Love. The sunsets alone are reason enough to label Mazatlan romantic, and sharing the spectacular views with a significant other can be an incredibly bonding and special experience.

The people, the food and the slower pace give Mazatlan extra brownie points as a romantic’s paradise. Read on for our list of the top ten most romantic things to do in Mazatlan.

1. Stroll Plaza Machado (especially on Saturday evenings!) to visit vendors, dine alfresco, enjoy live music or dance the night away.

2. Climb El Faro early in the morning, before the sun starts to beat. At the summit, you’ll enjoy exquisite views of the city. Trust us, it’s worth the steep trek!

3. Dine at a number of Mazatlan’s romantic restaurants. Lucila’s Restaurant is ideal for watching the sunset; if eating amongst ruins is more your scene, head to El Presidio; if dining fine gourmet at a restored colonial home is up your alley, make reservations at Casa 46.

4. During Mazatlan’s high season from November through May, there are hundreds of performances hosted at the beautifully restored Angela Peralta Theater in Centro Historico. From ballet to symphony performances, there is something new to see every week.

5. Enjoy a romantic picnic at any of the beaches located along Mazatlan’s 20 km of coastline. From Olas Altas to Nuevo Mazatlan, there’s bound to be an area of beach that fits your needs.

6. Looking for a heart-pumping, adrenaline-filled outing? Go zip-lining at Huana Coa, or visit the Golden Zone for parasailing lessons.

7. To get up-close and personal with Mazatlan’s wildlife, try an Onca Explora Expedition with your partner, and swim with wild dolphins and whales in their natural habitat off the coast of Mazatlan.

8. Charter a boat and head to Deer Island, a remote island off the coast that provides spectacular views of the city.

9. Learn Spanish together. Courses and private instructors can come to your hotel or meet at a nearby coffeeshop.

10. Walk the Malecon at sunset. As you walk hand in hand, allow yourselves to get lost in the sound of the waves as the sun dips below the horizon.
